Catch up with Broadcast Leadership Training (BLT) participant Cathy Cangiano (BLT 2021) as she highlights her favorite lesson of BLT so far and what she hopes to see in the future of broadcasting.

As a 2021 BLT participant, what has been your favorite lesson so far?

This is a challenge to answer this question as they have all been incredibly valuable. There is no doubt that the classes regarding the financial operations, tax structure and capital structure have been incredible. What I have enjoyed the most, specifically, was Jim Bado’s ability to take these topics and bring a level of entertainment and understanding that enhanced the overall learning experience. I never thought I would laugh while learning about financials!

What has been the key to your success in the industry?

I have been blessed and lucky to have worked with and learned from incredibly talented people throughout my career. From them I have learned the best of our business and they challenged me to continue to find ways to improve and influence the lives of our audiences in an ever-changing media landscape. In addition, I work for an owner whose purpose is to improve the lives of communities and families drives our business decisions and whose values determine our priorities and culture.

The NAB Leadership Foundation works with current and aspiring leaders to build the future of broadcasting. What do you hope for in the future of broadcasting?

Our industry has a unique advantage in that we create trusted, human relationships with our audiences via our broadcasters. These relationships have been well earned and have spanned the range of emotions from pure joy to unexpected tragedy. We have been invited into American homes for decades because of this trust. My hope is that we as an industry continue to be at the forefront of these moments and conversations while expanding and enhancing our products through the blending of advanced technology and broadcast.
