Our Media Sales Academy 2020 class is underway! Hear from MSA student Jordyn McNeil on his passion, goals and reason for pursuing a career in media sales.

Why do you want to work in media sales?

I would like to work media sales because it is an ever-evolving realm of sales. Media sales offers businesses solutions that can take their business to the next level as far as reaching new customers or simply establishing a brand awareness. Waking up every day knowing that you can change the way a business is seen or help them reach their full potential sounds like the right path for me. I would be able to connect with business owners and find out what they need. I know that it will be a challenge to have a conversation with most businesses, but it is all about my approach and my persistence that will yield success in this profession.

What do you hope to gain by participating in the Media Sales Academy?

I hope to gain as much insight as possible in this profession. I have already gained a sense of what this profession looks like with the ups and the downs from past Media Sales Academy students who came and spoke during our first session. Everyone is different so there isn’t a “one size fits all” approach to success in this profession but learning more from those who have dived into media sales head first could expose me to different strategies and tactics that I can take into my sales career. I would like to also continue to build my network of people through the Media Sales Academy because networking never stops. I have already been immersed in an amazing cohort of emerging sales professionals from different backgrounds but with one goal: to win.

Tell us a little about what you are studying and your extracurricular activities in school.

I am studying Media Management at Middle Tennessee State University. This major has equipped me with an array of knowledge pertaining to all types of media, from broadcast to digital. I am also studying Public Relations and Entrepreneurship as a double minor. All three of these areas of study go hand in hand when it comes to sales.

I am heavily involved on campus at MTSU. I am a part of various organizations: Student Government Association, Collegiate 100, Alpha Kappa Psi Professional Business Fraternity and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Balance. Balance. Balance. That is all it takes.

I am a business owner myself. Midas Touch Event Services serves the Nashville area offering photographers, DJs and event planning. I also produce music in my free time.

In my free time you could find me at the nearest gym or outside enjoying nature with a book in hand. I believe you can never stop learning.
