Recruiter Registration Now Open for NABEF's Media Sales Institute

-- Priority registration deadline is Sunday, January 31 --

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Recruiter registration for the National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation’s (NABEF) Media Sales Institute (MSI) is now open. The Media Sales Institute is an intensive 10-day program that trains young professionals for careers in media sales. Recruiters from broadcast stations and groups have the opportunity to observe program participants in sales presentations to local clients, conduct one-on-one interviews at the conclusion of the program and earn Equal Employment Opportunity credit for their respective companies.

Four universities will offer the MSI program in 2016: Ohio University, May 15-26; Howard University, June 5-17; Arizona State University, June 5-16; and Florida A&M University, May 10-20. Each site is open to recent graduates from universities across the country.

The program’s curriculum is designed to reflect current industry trends and provide participants with the tools they need to become multi-platform account executives in the areas of radio, television, cable and digital sales. Radio, television and cable executives make up the faculty of the program.

“As the media landscape continues to change, it is vital to empower sales professionals who not only understand the industry, but drive it,” said Marcellus Alexander, president, NABEF. “The NABEF Media Sales Institute prepares tomorrow’s sales executives and creates an opportunity to connect young talent with recruiters.”

Throughout the program, participants learn the basics of media sales from industry executives. In addition to class participation, each student is responsible for creating a multi-platform presentation that incorporates a traditional medium and a digital complement, which is then pitched to a real client. The program ends with a day of one-on-one interviews with recruiters. Many participants are hired in a related position within two weeks to one month of completion of the program.

Broadcast companies interested in participating as recruiters should contact Adaora Otiji, NABEF education program manager.
