WASHINGTON, DC -- NAB Education Foundation announced today that DC Mayor Adrian Fenty has proclaimed June 9, 2008 as 'National Association of Broadcasters Education Foundation Day.' The designation comes on the same day as NABEF's 10th annual Celebration of Service to America Awards, located at the National Building Museum in Washington, DC.
The decree acknowledges NABEF's efforts to "increase diversity at all levels in broadcasting" through "a full range of education and training programs." The proclamation also recognizes the significance of the Celebration of Service to America Awards, an annual event that honors broadcasters for outstanding service to their local communities. Each year, NABEF bestows their highest honor, the Celebration of Service to America Leadership Award, to individuals who have performed extraordinary public service in bettering the lives of others. This year's award honors entertainment industry icon Quincy Jones for his humanitarian efforts in establishing the Listen Up Foundation and the We Are the Future Foundation. 'Alabama' lead singer Randy Owen will also accept the Samaritan Award on behalf of Country Cares for St. Jude Kids. Inside Edition host Deborah Norville will emcee the event, and Grammy-winner Patti Austin will perform a musical tribute in honor of Quincy Jones.
