WASHINGTON, DC - The NAB Education Foundation (NABEF) announced today that Washington Sports & Entertainment Chairman Abe Pollin will deliver the keynote luncheon address at the seventh annual Service to America Summit in Washington, DC, June 13, at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. The summit honors the community service of local broadcasters and other humanitarians. Pollin will speak about "Community Service Partnerships with Local Radio and Television Stations."
Pollin entered his 40th year of National Basketball Association ownership in 2004-05 as the longest tenured owner in the NBA. As majority owner of Washington Sports & Entertainment, he oversees the operations of the Washington Wizards, Ticketmaster Washington/Baltimore and the management of MCI Center and the George Mason University Patriot Center. Thirty-two years ago, Pollin opened the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland, the new home for his Baltimore Bullets. In December 1997, Pollin opened the MCI Center, where a sellout crowd watched the Wizards host the arena's first event. Since that time, millions have spun the turnstiles at MCI Center, and the downtown area has sprung to life.
Pollin is known as much for his community service as for his business acumen. His philanthropic and humanitarian endeavors include many public service and community organizations to which he devotes enormous time, energy and financial resources. Among other concerns, he is Chairman of the Salvation Army's Leadership Committee for Centers of Hope and Co-Chair of the Community Capital Campaign for N Street Village in the District. He is also the co-sponsor of the "I Have a Dream Foundation" and has personally guaranteed a college education for 55 students.
The Service to America Summit is sponsored by the NABEF and Bonneville International Corporation.
